Note before: This is an old “Diary Entry” from the Modem-Help site, re-jigged into the etmg format. The original site is now long gone.

Lake Tahoe is both a town & the world's 2nd-largest freshwater lake, both straddling the border of California & Nevada at a height of about 7,000 feet within the middle of the Sierra Nevada mountains. Later we were all to discover the effects that height has upon the human male physiology when alcohol is consumed (translation: I got well drunk on 2 pints of beer).

The Lake is a stunning site set within a stunning location. It is a former volcanic caldera, now in filled with water & entirely surrounded with rocky peaks. I later learned from the wedding musician that 150 years ago all the local pines were stripped from the area to provide tunnel supports for nearby gold/silver mining and then replaced with nonindigenous trees. This didn't stop Lake Tahoe from being the most magical place for a wedding that I have experienced.

Susie, Liisa, Davin & Daryl stayed within Harveys (a hotel/casino just on the Nevada side of the border), but Becky, Daniel & myself stayed at the Rodeway Inn (a motel) - only 5 minutes walk away, but on the California side of the border and only $80 a night (Labor Day weekend prices) rather than the $200 a night for the cheapest room at Harveys. We arrived late at night and all went straight to bed, agreeing to meet again the following morning.
