The average chance of winning the lottery is about 1 in 14 million [49!/(6!*(49-6)!)]. Last Friday 27 March 2015 Mr & Mrs Long of Scunthorpe, North Lincolnshire, won the EuroMillions Lottery draw for the second time. According to the Lottery organisers, Camelot, the odds of that happening are 1 in 283 billion (about the same as the chances of being struck by lightning 570 times in the same year).

David Long had to become a £million GBP Lottery Winner before Kathleen MacKenzie agreed to marry him.

In June 2013 David Long, then 58, was a HGV lorry driver whilst Kathleen MacKenzie, then 62, had recently retired. In July 2013 David got the feeling that this week was going to be his week on the Lottery. However, when it came to it he won just £2.70 GBP, and the couple threw the ticket stub into the bin.

Later, David decided to collect the money anyway, no matter how small. The shop assistant told him that he had to contact Camelot. At that point he discovered that he had won £2.70 GBP. It was just that there was also an extra £1,000,000 GBP included in the winnings.

After collecting his winnings David lasted 3 days at work, then took early retirement. In the following 18 months they spread the joy of their winnings around their immediate family, bought a new car & got married. Then, recently, David got the same feelings as before...

Perhaps the only sour note with this new win is that it also comes with a brand new, top-of-the-range Jaguar car.
