I sent a mail yesterday about an agoraphobic grandmother who viciously attacked a manhole in Crawley. Well, there appears to be a new strain of virus that causes middle-aged women in London to launch unprovoked attacks on pavement voids. You have been warned.
Mohammed Atillah works in a cafe on North End Road, Fulham, south-west London. This early morning (23 April 2015) a small hole was born in the pavement outside the cafe; a man stepped into the hole and twisted his ankle. Mohammed put some tables & chairs around the hole to stop anyone else from damaging the hole further. Shortly before 9am Mohammed was chatting to the man as a woman with a shopping trolley in her 40s reached the chairs that were protecting the hole. (It is the woman that is in her 40s, btw, not the shopping trolley.)
The staff at the cafe cried with alarm (they were obviously worried about the hole) but the woman ignored them, squeezed past the chairs & plummeted into the innocent hole.
Mohammed helped the woman to reach the floor of the basement under the cafe, and she walked back up via the stairs.
An ambulance attended & took her to Charing Cross Hospital. There is no information as to what happened to the shopping trolley.
