Note before: This is an old “Diary Entry” from the Modem-Help site, re-jigged into the etmg format. The original site is now long gone.

Davin’s other Best Man was Mark. His wife, Sophie-Claire, was one of Liisa’s Bridesmaids and the 2 of them and their Australian friend had had a nightmare 21 hour flight from England to California - mechanical breakdown (twice), detours via Chicago, missing luggage - and had collapsed exhausted into a room above mine at the Rodeway Inn sometime after ourselves. So, of course, entirely oblivious of these events, I gave them a cheery wake up call at their door at 7:30 on Saturday morning. A very smelly Mark gave me a stoical (but friendly) English welcome.

Much later all the English folks met up. The girls set off together in very stylish fashion in Mark’s hire car (red with the soft-top down, sunglasses on) whilst the men set off to find a TV which could show the England-Germany World Cup football fixture. The manager of Harveys’ Sports Betting section worked his socks off to find us a feed, and we visited every “English” pub in the district. The TVs were full of US College Football, but not a single one was showing the only match worth watching. We spent the entire morning doing this and eventually collapsed into Harveys for “Breakfast” in the afternoon.

Whilst the rest of the men got their suits for the following day I hired a bicycle to try (unsuccessfully) to find some virgin forest to get a feel of the place. Later that evening everyone gathered in Harveys’ Hard Rock Cafe for a bite to eat & to get drunk - very easy indeed at the altitude.
